Star Wars: Rap Battles of History: Darth Vader Vs Hitler

While we are revealing the development work for the Lost Jedi project every second Wednesday; we thought we should pay homage to the trilogy that spawned it. Every second Wednesday we will be posting up articles, videos and funny shit for folks to have a look at.

This week: Adolf versus Darth Vader. Hard to see how this one might play out. Hitler it turns out has quite a dirty riff up his sleeve during this lyrical abuse contest for the famous. Who will win? No matter what, the galaxy will lose….

Happy Birthday Beyond the Bunker!! The Best of Moon! is officially 1 today. On 19th September 2010, Beyond the Bunker was officially launched online. On its first day it had 1 hit. Yesterday it had 297. Myself and Dan Thompson have rode (not really navigated) the good ship Bunker through treachorous waters and seas of indifference to steadily, hopefully supply you all with a bit of a laugh. What, what. In that time we have attempted to present material that we thought you’d all like. But there’s a heart to Beyond the Bunker and that is Moon. Here, below, are the ol’ satellite head’s best bits.

Moon and Shades Rodriguez take it to the streets of Shoreditch in this draft of the characters as they’d appear in the comic world.

Beyond the Bunker was effectively launched to showcase Moon 1, and Moon 1 had to exist in order for that to take place. And so work began on the first ever issue of Moon. A bit of a labour of love, above is the first page from that completed with the help of the lovely Ivanna Matilla, who joined us in October 2010 and has revolutionised the look of the whole thing. We love Iv.

Ray and Moon taking reviewing their latest case

On March 26 2011, Moon 1 was launched at the Square Pig in Holborn. It turned out to be an amazing night, with Paul Sweeney and Coldcallers providing musical comedy stylings and Skyskratcher and Dukes of Marmalade offering up musical genius. A non-stop night, even with complaints from the neighbours and a freindly explanation from the Square Pig that they could never have us back, everyone had a good time and Moon was given the launch he deserved.

Moon heads out to the North Pole to fend off an infestation of Nazi alien Stormtroopers obviously, aided by the Cca Cola coloured deity of the land in question. Can he stop the corruption of Christmas and save Santa? No. No, he can’t. No one is getting Christmas presents any more. No, wait, memo, he might be able to… A concept design just to say Merry Christmas to our readers, all 3 of them by Christmas 2010 I believe – this post was viewed 10 times.

A follow up to the Moon and Santa Vs Space Nazis concept, this is our Valentine’s cover. We hope to bring you more this year but no promises because we’re too busy trying to get the real thing out.

Following a very successful first run, selling out completely of our first editions thanks to the event and you folk’s incredible enthusiasm for the orb face, the second print of 1000 copies was completed 2 months ago. More compact (perhaps sexier) than its predecessor you can still order a copy at the BTB Shop!! Get yours now! We’ll send it to your very door!!

Reverend: Wrath of God page 2 Preview

Welcome folks. Please find attached one more art and colour sample of Cy Dethan’s version of Barry Nugent’s Unseen Shadows character, The Reverend which I’ve been working on for a few weeks now. Almost every page is finished now and on its way to be coloured by the irepresable Gat Melvyn of SA. The collected work of the five Fallen Heroes titles, Tales of the Fallen, will be available at Thought Bubble in Leeds in November.

Dropping Science: How To Make Fire From Ice

Those of us familiar with the Anthony Hopkins, Bear fighting extravaganza that is The Edge will probably already know this trick. But for the sake of those who haven’t, or who would just like it explained to them with handy visual aids rather than the sound of Alec Baldwin weeping, here it is. Survivalist Tim Jones takes us through the steps needed to turn a frozen lump of water into a cosy campfire.

Why Marvel have never explored the idea that Iceman turns transparent when he rubs himself is beyond me.

(I’m gonna kill the bear!)

The Extraordinary Tales of Monsieur Poppaleux #25 – Bouef of a Nation

In 1993, famous Belgian author and spring onion connoisseur, Dr Jean-François Bacharach created a series of books for children. The aim of the project was to use state of the art digital technology to educate and inform on a wide range of topics from maths and theology to poetry and tennis. Using pioneering clip-art techniques, he produced a staggering portfolio of work that continues to be widely distributed in schools across the world and Belgium. Sadly DrBacharach himself was eventually imprisoned due to his being ahead of his time and because he killed a quite staggering number of cats. However his work lives on here at the Bunker! We have secured the entirety of Dr Bacharach’s monumental work and now present it to you. C’est formidable!

Extreme Paintball

Steve and I went paintballing together a couple of years ago. It was pretty much exactly like this with the obvious exception that we were hiding in a hut and crying rather than doing crazy jumps and shooting everyone.

This awesome vid was made by Saman Keshavarz as a music video for Porter Robinson’s track Spitfire. Stitching the footage together to appear as one continuous shot like this takes some serious editing skills. Nice.

Man of Steel: First look at the new Superman

Despite being two years away, Zach Snyder’s reboot of the Superman franchise has acknowledged that folks all over the world’d like to take a look at how the new Man of Steel, Englishman Henry Cavill shapes up. Christopher Reeves has occupied the role better than any other actor, as pretty much everyone, still, refers to how much or how little any new actor taking on the role looks or doesn’t look like him. Giving a nod to fans all over the world, WB have released this image of the Man of Steel. It reportedly doesn’t relate in any way to the intended plot of the final movie but is there to give folks something to moan about. Most notably the lack of red pants. It looks like Henry Cavill has what it takes visually to fill the red rubber boots and with steady hands like Christopher Nolan involved in the process hopes remain high.

Lost Jedi: Jedi Master Ba-Na Newlon

Jedi Master Ba-Na Newlon (Tash Banks) is a Master without a Padawan. With a strong connection to the force and all other living things, Ba-Na Newlon succeeds in tracking down an errant and captured young Padawan held by a terrorist cell on a dust planet in the outer rim. Strong willed, empathic and with a commanding presence, Ba-Na Newlon is however a soothing and calm presence, caring and nurturing. She too has chosen to wander about the space lanes, a choice made thanks to her close connection with the stern wandering Jedi Rial Shif. A calming influence over the hard bitten Rial, Ba-Na Newlon attempts to guide newfound Lost Jedi throughout the galaxy to a safe haven. If only she could figure out where that is…

Band of Butchers Cover Revealed

A lot of you already know that I have a new comic coming out in November and the publishers went public with the cover today so I’m finally allowed to let you have a wee look. It’s the tale of a former Marine coming to terms with the killer he’s become. It’s also about lots of people getting shot. The cover and interior art is by Rob “Indifference Engine” Cary, colours are by Vicky Stonebridge and Letters come from Paul McLaren.

It’s being released as part of the Unseen Shadows: Tales of the Fallen collection and is shaping up to be really really good. I really can’t wait to see this one in print.

Oh, and it’s also not quite as kid friendly as Moon…sorry.
