‘Airstrike Suck-arse!!’ Rocket Raccoon Joins Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3

Rocket Raccoon joins the throng of Capcom and Marvel Godheads that pummel each other as part of Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom and he’s a cockney wideboy!! Although it appears he shouts ‘Airstrike Suck-arse!’ just after kicking Chun-li’s teeth in which is odd, perhaps in an American attempt at a cockney accent, Rocket has been one of our favourite characters for ages and it’s good to see him bombing a wolf. Seems the Guardians of the Galaxy might be nothing without him but it would appear he’s a bit of a tw@t.

Whatever the reason behind Rocket coming from the mean streets of Tottenham and Bexley Heath it’s good to see that the universe’s primary defence against reality bending necromancers talks like a Pearly King after 15 pints and a gin in the ol’ Dog in Canning Town. When it comes to kick ass on a galactic level; send in the mammal who fashions himself on the Krays.

Hello MCM People!

Hi chaps,

It occurs that there are probably quite a lot of new people visiting the site this weekend as a result of the MCM Expo this weekend and we just wanted to once again take the chance to say hi and show you around the site a little bit.

I’m Dan, I wrote Moon. You can find my bio HERE!

Steve drew Moon and Fallen Heroes. You can read all about him HERE!

If you want to find out what the Moon comic is all about you can find up to date news HERE and a trailer/blurb HERE!

If you want to mail order a copy of the book then you can do so HERE!

Steve and I are heavily involved in the Unseen Shadows line of books and you can read about them HERE!

You might have noticed that we make films as well. You can find all of them on the menu at the top or by clicking HERE!

We try to update the site almost every day so we have a whole bumload of other features and articles for when we don’t have any Moon or FH news to tell you about. Here’s a few of them that you might want to check out:

THE PRACTITIONERS is a weekly blog by Steve which looks back over the careers of some of the most influential people in the comics industry. There are over 30 articles on there already so you’ve got plenty of reading to do. There will be a test at the end. I’d suggest using the menu at the top to navigate them so it doesn’t become too overwhelming! (hint: The Jeph Loeb one is very entertaining)

THE EXTRAORDINARY ADVENTURES OF MONSIEUR POPPALEUX is a weekly clipart webcomic which is honestly not written by me (honest) but rather by the famous 90′s children’s author and cat strangler, Dr Jean-François Bacharach. It’s about a maladjusted smiley face and a pie chart who lies.

On top of all this both STEVE and MYSELF both have blogs here and we often write articles about COMICSFILMSand GAMES.

Finally, if you are so inclined you can also follow MESTEVE and BEYOND THE BUNKER on twitter.

Given how many books we’ve sold to children as of late I should take a moment to say that we are trying to keep the site as kid friendly as we can, but bear in mind that certain parts of it (the films and Monsieur Poppaleux in particular) are intended for an older audience.

Phew! What a lot of links. Well that should give you plenty of stuff to keep you busy for a while. Please pop us on your bookmarks bar and check in every day to see what’s new and be sure to drop us a message and let us know what you think of the book and the site. You guys really are the backbone of this whole endeavour and it’s honestly very humbling to see how much interest you all take in what we do.

Welcome to Beyond The Bunker.

Dropping Science: Slow Motion Buzz Saw

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3mzhvMgrLE&w=853&h=480]

We’re used to inventors putting a lot of faith in their inventions but when your invention happens to be a device designed to stop a buzz saw in 1000th of a second when it comes into contact with a human finger, you could forgive the creator for not wanting to put their money where their mouth was. Not so in the case of Steve Gas. He’s so sure of his design that he’s willing to plunge his own finger into a 5000 rpm saw blade in order to prove it works and the Discovery Channel is more than willing to film the whole thing in glorious slow motion.

Viva la DIY Science!

(if you want to keep up on what we’re up to at the MCM Expo in London, follow us on twitter!)

MCM Expo This Weekend! Batman and Cosplay and Moon, Oh My!

If you’re at a loss for something to do this weekend then we at the Bunker would strongly suggest that you come check out the MCM (Movies, Comics & Manga) Expo at London’s Excel Centre! With competition cropping up from other major cons, MCM have pulled all the stops out this year and it honestly looks like it’s going to be a fantastic day out. You’ll be able to play all the latest games (including Arkham City), watch the many splendid (and not so splendid) cosplayers parading their fancy outfits and of course pick up a copy of Moon! There’s also a chance to meet Batgirl/Secret Six writer Gail Simone, Dr Who writer Tony Lee and tonnes of other guests too.

Last time we went to MCM we met a robot who liked comics. If you come then you could meet a robot who likes comics too!

MCM is a fantastic show and the sheer number of things to do there is utterly mindblowing. If you’ve not been before then give it a go. I promise you will not regret it!

We shall be at the Beyond the Bunker stall in the Comics Village so please do drop by and say hello. We will have the usual comics, badges and limited edition DVDs available plus you’ll be able to ask any questions about the forthcoming release of Tales of the Fallen.

If you’re not able to make it then you needn’t feel left out as I’ll be tweeting the days events all through the weekend. Just follow me on twitter to join in!

Home Made Avengers Trailer

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aLgdMz0p5Y&w=853&h=480]

Not content with just watching the amazing Avengers Trailer youtube film makers Dumb Drum decided to make their own version. What it lacks in polish it more than makes up for in hilarious Thor lines.

Enjoy!

(I have some interesting news RE Moon digital edition and Oxicomics coming up but I probably won’t get time to talk about it here until after MCM this weekend. If I get a chance I’ll put some details up on Twitter)

Citizens of the Internet will already be aware of the glorious absurdity that is Epic Meal Time. Now thanks to animator, Dr Smoov the Decepticons have been able to get in on the epic meal time action. Megatron, Mixmaster and Soundwave are mixing up the ultimate Energon cube and you better believe that there’s booze involved.

Epic.

Tales of the Fallen: Wrath of God Preview

As many of you know, Steve and I have a couple of new books coming out in November. “Tales of the Fallen” is a set of four one-shot comics based on the Unseen Shadows series of books by Barry Nugent.  To celebrate the upcoming release of the comics, we’re going to be previewing one of them each week in October. If you want to be one of the only people in the world to pick up signed copies of Tales of the Fallen you’ll need to buy a ticket to theThought Bubble convention in Leeds so you can be there for the grand launch. Enjoy the previews:

Wrath of God

Cy Dethan (Writer), Steve Penfold (Artist) Gat Melvin (Colours), Nic Wilkinson (Lettering)

The Reverend: a holy weapon forged in tragedy and flame – a murderous martyr whose cold judgement strikes with the force of a vengeful God. Despair, for the Reverend walks among you. He is the right hand of vengeance. He is Wrath.

For more information check out Unseen Shadows on the WEB, on FACEBOOK and on TWITTER

A Song For Siri

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hckrig2BwNY&w=853&h=480]

Musician and internet star Jonathan Mann really loves the features on his new iPhone 4S. In particular he holds a deep affection for the device’s voice recognition app, Siri. Sadly for Jonathan, Siri appears not to share his affections and in this touching duet the digital ice-queen rejects him at every turn. Love is pain, especially when you love a phone.

While you’re watching Jonathan’s work take a second to have a look at this video explaining his song a day project. It really is something special.

Dropping Science: Quantum Levitation!

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ws6AAhTw7RA&w=853&h=480]

I’ve always felt a little bit cheated that we’ve reached 2011 and I still don’t have my personal hoverboard. At the ASTC Annual Conference in Baltimore this year however, that dream moved a step closer to reality. Tel-Aviv University stunned the world (well the internet at least) with its demonstration of a quantum superconductor, locked within a magnetic field. Essentially the object can be placed at any angle within the field and so will remain locked in place with no other means of support, it can even move around given a magnetic track and a push!

The science behind it is (as you’d imagine from something with the word “Quantum” in it, pretty complicated but essentially it boils down to the fact that the material coating the levitating object is a superconductor and superconductors hate magnetic fields. As the superconductor tries to expel the magnetic field and the magnetic field attempts to pass through the superconductor the disk winds up frozen in space above the magnet. For a more detailed (and probably slightly more accurate) description of how it works have a look at their webpage on the subject.

So can we expect to be flying to work tomorrow? Well no. For the effect to work the object has to be extremely thin and extremely cold (like -185ºC ). Still it’s a hover-step closer and that’s exciting enough for me.
