Moon 2: Page 1 Final Colours

Sketch week!!

Not all of the work we do at Beyond the Bunker makes it up on to the site. These are the delirious, subconscious scratchings of an artist fighting to finish our title, Moon 2 in time for our proposed deadline. Still, I took a minute to knock this up to show – I dunno – some of the stuff lying around the work space at any given moment. More random pieces of artwork will be appearing here very soon. Please keep an eye on Wednesdays for Beyond the Bunker Classic as well as some scraps to illuminate the edges of the work we do here at the Bunker.

Moon #2 Cover Revealed!

It’s finally arrived!! While this is the basic shape of things to come I can promise a great many surprises yet! Moon 2 is well on it’s way. Watch this space for updates every Monday (from now on)!!

Moon 2 Preview

Moon 2 is on it’s way folks!! We will try to make sure that updates are here every Monday from now on – though this is difficult to maintain so there are no spoilers – and what spoilers there could be!! Remember of course that Moon is currently at the mercy of the mysterious Bingo Mole soldiers and the mercenary killer that has shot Ray. Electrocuted, weakened and surrounded Moon will of course try to make his escape. However, will it go to plan? For starters he needs his car and it looks like it’s being nicked by a certain Shades Rodriguez….

Stay tuned to Beyond the Bunker on Mondays for the Moon face’s return… he’s coming back and we hope you’re looking forward to it as much as we are…

P.S. These are draft pencil and ink work and mock lettering – not the final look of the panel… just so you know…

Countdown to Moon 2 1: Stupid Can Never Die!!

Happy Birthday Beyond the Bunker!! The Best of Moon!

Beyondthebunker.com is officially 1 today. On 19th September 2010, Beyond the Bunker was officially launched online. On its first day it had 1 hit. Yesterday it had 297. Myself and Dan Thompson have rode (not really navigated) the good ship Bunker through treachorous waters and seas of indifference to steadily, hopefully supply you all with a bit of a laugh. What, what. In that time we have attempted to present material that we thought you’d all like. But there’s a heart to Beyond the Bunker and that is Moon. Here, below, are the ol’ satellite head’s best bits.

Moon

Moon and Shades Rodriguez take it to the streets of Shoreditch in this draft of the characters as they’d appear in the comic world.

Beyond the Bunker was effectively launched to showcase Moon 1, and Moon 1 had to exist in order for that to take place. And so work began on the first ever issue of Moon. A bit of a labour of love, above is the first page from that completed with the help of the lovely Ivanna Matilla, who joined us in October 2010 and has revolutionised the look of the whole thing. We love Iv.

Ray and Moon taking reviewing their latest case

On March 26 2011, Moon 1 was launched at the Square Pig in Holborn. It turned out to be an amazing night, with Paul Sweeney and Coldcallers providing musical comedy stylings and Skyskratcher and Dukes of Marmalade offering up musical genius. A non-stop night, even with complaints from the neighbours and a freindly explanation from the Square Pig that they could never have us back, everyone had a good time and Moon was given the launch he deserved.

Moon heads out to the North Pole to fend off an infestation of Nazi alien Stormtroopers obviously, aided by the Cca Cola coloured deity of the land in question. Can he stop the corruption of Christmas and save Santa? No. No, he can’t. No one is getting Christmas presents any more. No, wait, memo, he might be able to… A concept design just to say Merry Christmas to our readers, all 3 of them by Christmas 2010 I believe – this post was viewed 10 times.

A follow up to the Moon and Santa Vs Space Nazis concept, this is our Valentine’s cover. We hope to bring you more this year but no promises because we’re too busy trying to get the real thing out.

Following a very successful first run, selling out completely of our first editions thanks to the event and you folk’s incredible enthusiasm for the orb face, the second print of 1000 copies was completed 2 months ago. More compact (perhaps sexier) than its predecessor you can still order a copy at the BTB Shop!! Get yours now! We’ll send it to your very door!!

Moon Fan Art

One of the things that really amazed us about Moon is how much people love doing their own doodles of him. Almost no convention goes by without some exhibitor or other handing us a sketch of ol globehead and over time we’ve amassed a small but wonderful collection of them. Since we’re having a little summer break from conventions we thought it was high time to share a few of our favourites from the last few months.

Sketch given to us at Kapow! Comic con in April. To my shame, I can't remember who it was that drew it, but I love the scruffy look of the shirt.

A somewhat vintage looking sketch from the stunningly talented Nusha Amini

Matt from Moo & Keo was drawing superhero themed lion cubs at LFCC and decided to add Moon to the lineup

This one's actually by Steve, just to prove that he does do convention sketches from time to time.

We’ll try to throw up another collection of fan art later in the year. If you have a pic of Moon that you’d like to share, send it to us at btbcomics@gmail.com and we’ll do our best to post it up!

Possible Moon Poster Incoming

Not going to lie to you – trying to come up with a weekly Moon update is quite tiring. Frustrating to as we don’t wanna give away things that are going to take place in Issue 2 just yet. So here is the 25,000 image posted on Friday, today but with Moon at the top. This miht well develop at a later date into a major poster with significantly more detail – in fact I hope it does. And with each extra detail I will post up. Once (if) we’ve figured out how to get it printed it’ll be made available to you good selves.

New Moon Flyer

There’s no way around it sometimes you just need to advertise. With the cooperation of Ukomics we will be handing this little number out for the first time at the London Film and Comic Con on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Big thanks to Stu!

Moon 2, Page 1 in Ink

Moon 2, page 1 as god intended her (all that's left is getting it as Iv intends her)

I remain excited at the prospect of being able to offer up the inks for Page 1, Issue 2 of Moon. This was a tester for me as we got back in the game to bring you the lunar shennanigans before. In my time off I was very clear in my mind as to what the drop points of the original were, not that anyone seemed to notice. The linework lacked the sharpness I was looking for and the clarity of composition I was hoping for. So I went in on 2 (and FH 2 – and even more so on Cy’s Reverend) with the intention to develop what had already been done without losing the tone of the original.

It can be difficult to develop within a series as the artwork shouldn’t change too dramatically from Page 1 to Page 150 frankly but when you’re in your early days – like I am – there’s a curve and it’d shortchange readers if you don’t follow that line. I’ve tried to hard to maintain the tone of Issue 1 but I hope Issue 2 proves sharper and cleaner, funnier and more engaging still than the original. If Issue 1 was the intro, this is now the proving ground. Here’s hoping we’re up to it.

All that’s left to do is send it over to Iv. She’ll do what she always does and blow it clean out of the water with deft application of creation-like colour work. We love Iv and I personally have to thank her for being so patient while waiting for pages. She’s a colour obsessed angel. The end results of her efforts’ll be posted here as soon as they’re back.

Semper procedens.
