Parody

BTB Film – [Box] Fresh

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaXBVSnCJa8&w=640&h=480]

[Box] Fresh is a parody of youth TV and is pretty much the first short film I ever made. A few friends and I (including Paul Wade and my then-girlfriend-now-wife)  got together in Canterbury and decided to shoot a few sketches that we’d been kicking around. This was the final result and I’m still pretty proud of it. It comes from that awkward time before I realised I needed to keep my own daft face behind the camera rather than in front of it but the blind freerunning skit is still a joke that I’m very pleased to have written.

The movie won us a Best Editor award and led to us going on to make loads of other things, so Box will always hold a special place in my heart.

Star Wars 'Call Me Maybe'

The Star Wars cast sings Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen. Obi wan (Old and Young) and a host of Skywalkers join Yoda and the Jedi for a quick rendition of an otherwise potentially forgettable pop tune. It even has a Mutilingual bit, who knew what Greedo was saying in the Cantina but it was certainly irritating enough for Han Solo to shoot first (answering a long standing question has to who started it).

It’s good that the dialogue from the love scenes in parts II and III have found a half decent. In the mean time, have to doff your cap to James Covenant fgor finding a new way to see the Star Wars movies – even in this slightly tacky way…

BTB Film – Wild Watch

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ug_yyOsreXI&w=853&h=480]

Jim Eaton and I made this Springwatch parody back in 2011. It’s another 2 Days Laughter Festival entry and as such is a 5 min comedy film that was produced in 48 hours. It stars the wonderfully funny, rubber faced stylings of Paul Teeling and Rosie Owen who were, as ever, a total joy to work with. Camera work and special effects were done by Paul Wade and he deserves a lot of the overall credit for being the one that badgered Jim and I into doing the film when we really had a lot of other work we should have been doing.

What if Star Wars was a Spanish Soap Opera?

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7tZrBgwAX8&w=853&h=480]

I know Steve tends to handle the Star Wars stuff (he may well have something already planned for this week, in which case enjoy your double helping) but I’ve been laughing at this pretty much consistently for about three days and I can no longer hold off the desire to share it.

Empire Strikes Back, transformed into a Spanish soap opera.

May the passion be with you.

Space Stallions

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Otaq2tmNMM&w=853&h=480]

Sunday is rapidly turning into “stupid stuff we can’t categorise” day but I’m not sure that’s entirely a bad thing. The Animation Workshop created this intro for a fake horse-based-space-adventure-show and it would be criminal not to share it here. If you were a fan of 80s cartoons, this should bring the memories flooding back.

I want a sword that turns into a keytar.

Walk Off The Earth One Guitar Parody

If you spend any time on the internet then you’re probably already familiar with the wonderful video in which Walk Off The Earth cover Gotye and Kimbra’s “Somebody That I used to know” using just one guitar. If you’re not then here it is, it’s awesome and you’ll need to be familiar with it in order to die laughing at what’s coming next:

Ok, so that was great. Now, as is the way all virals, it was only a matter of time until somebody produced a parody and fortunately for us in this case the lampoon has come from musical comedy heavyweights, The Key of Awesome. I have honestly not laughed so hard in a long time (though it should be said that I do really like the original song so I may be a little biased).

Anyway, watch, enjoy and check out some more of Key of Awesome’s work.

Skyrim 2012

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEMD28MMtNg&w=853&h=480]

In all honesty, I thought I was done posting Skyrim parodies. We’ve showcased a fair few of them over the past few months and I was getting to the point where I thought all the jokes had been done. Then I had the pleasure of stumbling upon The Grosjean Brother’s new webseries about two douchebags trying to get by in the land of the Nords, 2000 years after the events of the game. People have done first person game parodies before but few are as well observed and executed as this. The shopkeeper alone is worth the price of admission.

You can watch Episode 2 here and be sure to look out for more episodes from the boys later in the year.

Literal MS Paint Music Video is as Stupid as it is Wonderful

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNr_M3kbWQA&w=640&h=480]

A week ago I had never even heard of daftly named, generic pop warblers, LMFAO. Now I find myself having posted two of their songs in just one week. I’m not sure what it is about their music that makes it so appealing to ingenious video makers with too much time on their hands, but it’s getting to a point that we might as well declare it an art movement in and of itself.

This time it’s the clever chaps at Literal MS Paint to step up with this hilarious video for the band’s (are they a band?) seminal masterpiece “Party Rock Anthem.”

I fear the 90s are back.

(I was going to post another Evergreen today but I’m worried about it becoming a “thing” so I’m gonna hold off for the good of everyone)

He-Man is Sexy (And he Knows it)

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wu97XDIbyAE&w=640&h=480]

What better way to celebrate today’s anti-SOPA blackout than by sharing a video that would, in all likelihood, be illegal should the bill pass. He-Man is pretty buff, he knows it and he damn well wants to make sure that you know it too.  JesseWolf‘s video defiantly falls into the sillier end of the spectrum but for the teddy bear alone, it’s worth a watch.

We’re not doing a SOPA blackout today, partly because we’re a primarily UK based site and it wouldn’t have any real impact but mostly because I don’t have the technical know-how to actually implement it. If you’d like to find out more about SOPA and the damage it could do to sites like ours, click here.

His Name is James Bond

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aT8lJEgEuTk&w=853&h=480]

Very much not safe for work but very very funny. Turns out that on reflection James Bond is a complete tool and so Youtuber Running Corners decided to make a song celebrating this. It has a definite Adam & Joe vibe to it, albeit with a lot more swearing.

Perhaps not surprisingly, this came to my attention via the twisted and brilliant Rob Carey. He has some new art on his blog and you should go look at it.
